Kush returned to Africa after leaving Egypt. The Kushites worshiped an African lion-god instead of Egyptian Gods. Meroitic was a native language the Kushites wrote and spoke with its own alphabet. They usually co-ruled the kingdom with their husbands & sons. Kandakes were considered goddesses. Queen Amanirenas (one of the greatest kandakes) defended against the powerful Romans in 24 BCE. Amanirenas & Prince Akindad (her son) led an attack on several Roman forts that get completely destroyed. Rome finally signed a peace treaty with Kush after 3 years of fierce fighting. Kush defeated the most the most powerful empire in the world thanks to Queen Amanirenas. Kush survived for another 400 or more years. But in 350 CE Kush got defeated by African Ethiopian invaders.
